The design speed for Panamax type vessels sailing
downstream at 32 feet is 7 knots and saling upstream in ballast 10
knots.
The existence of hard bottom areas prevents the developement of
speeds higher than the design speed in any of this areas, specially
between curves km 62.3 and km 67.8.
The squat effect dramatically increases the draught of
the vessel at excess velocity. Most Panamax trim by the bow as
consequence of the squat effect.
